Any educational assistant who works in a Title I school is referred to as a Paraprofessional. Paraprofessionals must meet Highly Qualified (HQ) guidelines as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 which states "The paraprofessionals must show competency (e.g., be qualified)".
